Client Custom Dream Home

Your task is to both act like a client and an architect to design a dream home. Each student will play the role of the client and the architect at the same time. Students will select a partner to role play throughout this long term project. Once you select a partner, they are final, no changes can be made.

As an example of how this will work out, Brian and Susie are partners. During a single session, Brian will act as the Architect while Susie acts as the Perspective Home Buying Client. Susie will describe to Brian how she would like the house to be, giving Brian her family details and home desires. Brian will take this into consideration and begin to work on a design brief and a sketch concept for Susie.

The next session, roles are reversed, Susie will become the Architect and Brian the Perspective Home Buying Client.

Each time the Architect and client meet, these meetings must be scheduled and recorded. Once a role has been established during a class period you can not switch roles. The schedule for meetings will be on Monday's and the first half of class on Wednesday.

There maybe times when one partner is on a different Phase then the other partner, this is fine, however it is best for each student to work as diligently as possible to not drop behind.

Phase Descriptions

Phase 1: Architect Client Meetings & Design Brief Proposals

Prior to partners meeting as Architect and Client, each student as the role of the client should formalize their Dream House scenario, and have all their wants and needs clearly stated in a write up to give the Architect to better assist them during the design process.
Partners will meet and interview their Client
Architects will create a Design Brief for their Client.
- Design Briefs will include concept layouts and sketches of the Client's house
- Quick sketches will need to be created
  - Floor plans
  - Exterior Elevations
  - Key room elevations (Kitchen, Bathroom etc...)
Partners will have to meet multiple times until each client is satisfied with the Architects Design Brief Proposal and okays the start of Phase 2.
Each Architect must meet with the owner of the design company (Mr. Acquesta) where he will give the Design Brief Proposal a final okay.

Phase 2: Floor Plan & Elevation Rough Drawings

Each Architect will create rough drawings of floor plans and exterior elevation drawings
Drawings must be presented to clients for critique an okayed
These drawings are to be done on 11x 17 grid paper

Phase 3: AutoCAD Floor Plans

Final AutoCAD created floor plans will be created and presented to the Client as a one final critique.
Any final adjustments must be made at this time regarding the floor plan before moving to the next phase.

Phase 4: AutoCAD Foundation Plans, Door & Window Schedules

Final AutoCAD foundation plans are created.
Final AutoCAD created door and window schedules will be created and presented to the Client.
Any final adjustments must be made at this time to doors or windows before moving to the next phase.

Phase 5: AutoCAD Exterior Elevations

Final AutoCAD created exterior elevations will be created and presented to the Client
Any final adjustments must be made at this time before moving to the next phase.

Phase 6: Final Design Portfolio Presentations (Additionally Used as Semester 1 Final Exam Grade)

Each Architect will present their final Design Portfolio to the class.
A 5-10 minute presentation of the different drawings they created, presented at the front of the room
This is best done in a powerpoint or a PDF slide show.
